The Mystery of Jayski Revealed
By Joe "BumpStop" Foster
September 28, 2002
The early morning hours would find me tossing dollars at a gaming table in a place to dangerous to even mention. The night had been kind to me and I afforded the luxury of a smile. In the back of this shady Casino far away from the light of the main gaming table appeared a shadow draped figure that seemed to be attracting my attention. I made my way back to the deepest point of the card room where no man would dare to venture. I had come for a bigger reason other than to gamble on luck but ended up taking the biggest gamble of my life. From within the clutches of South America I had found a way to meet the elusive Jayski. With the enigma of Howard Hughes and the schedule of the Tooth Fairy this mystery guru of racing links had agreed to meet for a one time interview exclusive to this reporter. As I made my way to the darkened meeting room my mind raced with thoughts of what Jayski could be. I had envisioned the worst of thoughts and my mind spun back to the Total Recall movie in which the king of the group spoke from another mans belly. Could this be what awaited me on my journey? Was Jayski actually a metamorphose creature sent from the NASCAR Gods to watch over the Portal of links? In the back of the room was a booth in which I could see a shadow of a figure. It was a man of sorts smoking a cigar and mumbling words that I have never heard before. On the table in front of this strange man was a bubbling container of glowing goo. Wires protruded from this container and hooked into a lap top computer. On the screen of the machine I could see the Jayski site. I had traveled three continents and risked life and limb for this? A meeting with a container of glow in the dark goo? The man told me to stare into the container and chant the words that he mumbled.(it aint cheatin if you dont get caught, it aint cheatin if you don’t get caught) I felt at ease and I could sense the dirty surroundings of the Casino start to leave me. A blue sky opened up and I found myself setting on a mountain top. Beside me appeared a guru of a man with a long beard and a turban on his head. I had come to realize that this man was Jayski. We smoked from an odd shaped pipe and this larger than life man began to explain the mystery of the racing portal. I felt like a young child hungry for racing knowledge as I soaked in all that Jayski had to teach. He covered amazing facts about the sport some of which I had never realized. Telling the future as well as the past this guru from beyond seemed to control all that is linked in the world of cyber. I had so many things to ask this virtual God of racing links. How do you do it? How is it possible that you can read all the racing news from around the world and link it all in a common portal? My question missed the bigger picture of what Jayski is. For he never was a man at all but an idea whom time had come. As the dream feeling wore off I could feel myself returning to the Casino in South America from where my journey had begun. I begged for more time with the guru of links but ended up gazing into the glowing container of goo. The shadow of a man watching over the container started speaking in terms that I could understand. He told me a story about how Jayski was discovered. Apparently at some point in 1948 a racing tire from one of the early pioneers of NASCAR went spinning wildly into the infield of the track at Daytona. Inside that tire was found a strange goo. The goo seemed to be florescent in nature and was clearly of another world. The NASCAR founders took the goo to headquarters where it remained in a guarded container until just a few years ago. NASCAR had hooked the container up to an early model computer and from that idea of intelligence begot Jayski a thinking all serving guru of cyber links. A hurricane in the Daytona area had delivered disaster at NASCAR headquarters and the container became lost. Some say that the Jayski of today is that exact mixture of goo but noted now as utilizing a later version lap top computer. My interview with Jayski seemed to carry little weight in the world of reporting as most would laugh at me and accuse me of going off the deep end. How could I explain to the world that Jayski was an idea begot from a goo type substance found in a racing tire. I would spend the rest of my reporting career writing menus for Denny’s given the fact that my colleagues never bought off on the idea of what Jayski really was. I can only hope that someday in the near future Jayski appears in the form of a dream similar to the one we shared and clears this mystery up once and for all. Until that day comes I will continue to search the Silly Season site looking for answers as to what Jayski is and where this guru of links originates from.
