Jack Roush Made The Wrong Call: A Rant An Opinion
November 15, 2005
By Colby Einarsson
Kurt Busch shouldn’t have even been pulled over in the first place. He’s Kurt Busch. He’s got experience. It wasn’t even on the race track. If it were on the track, or even within the perimeter of the track, that would’ve been one thing, but it wasn’t even in the sport. It was outside of the race track. If the police want to do something, that’s one thing, but he should not be suspended from the race. You shouldn’t win the Nextel Cup and then the next year, miss the last two races, especially when you make the Chase! I like Jeff Gordon and I like Jamie McMurray, but they’re not in the Chase. It wouldn’t have been as bad if one of them had done it. But if you’re in the Chase, you shouldn’t ever get suspended. Some people say Kurt Busch is arrogant. He has a right to be. He’s the 2004 NASCAR Champion. As for the alcohol, we don’t have proof he had alcohol. The cops said he had alcohol. But the machine broke. If they had a test and could prove it, that’s one thing. But they don’t. And when it comes to taking the word of Kurt Busch or some random Sheriff, I think I’m going to take Kurt Busch. And if a cop tries to pull you over and there’s no shoulder, just grass, or it’s a two-lane road, where you gonna go? Just stop in the middle? That might have been all the delay was. If he’d pulled over where it was unsafe, the cop probably would have given him another ticket! There aren’t any video tapes of him fleeing the cops. There’s just no proof. My opinion might be a little different if there was. And speeding? Who doesn’t speed? Everyone does that. Reckless driving is just speeding one mile an hour faster. Everyone’s been a little impatient at one time or another and pulled around someone they thought was in the way. Most everyone’s done that. It’s all reckless driving in some form or another. And the arrogance of Kurt Busch? What about the arrogance of Jack Roush? You wanna talk about no consideration! What about all the people that are Kurt Busch fans? There might not be as many fans of Kurt Busch as people who are anti-Kurt Busch fans, but they take time off work, come to the race, they wanna see their favorite driver, and then he’s not there. Jack says he wants to be considerate of the outraged fans, but what about the people that want to see Kurt Busch? Not only that, but what about Jack Roush hurting other companies? He has no consideration for anyone else. He either hurt or raised the ratings for NASCAR and I’m not sure which. But what about Hot Wheels and even his own company, Team Caliber? They’re going to suffer. They’re not going to make merchandise for Kenny Wallace or Todd Kluever. Even somewhere that I might shop, or anywhere else they sell Kurt Busch merchandise, is going to suffer even a little bit because they won’t sell as much. And I’m glad Roger Penske isn’t going to treat Kurt any differently because of this. That’s why he’s cool. It doesn’t matter what Kurt Busch did or does, Roger Penske is going to treat him the same. I can’t believe Jack Roush would let this happen.
