Michigan NASCAR Notebook ~ Saturday
An Opinion

June 17, 2007
By Connie Felix

Biffle Speaks
Jack Roush, car owner for No. 16 Dish Network Ford, stated his driver needed to win and fast as Greg (Biffle) was really constipated. The driver in turn said, "Jack's head is in a guillotine". It's all about winning and Biffle hasn't this season. "I didn't just forget how to drive at Pocono", commented Biffle as he explained the team had some weak links. He is convinced that the team has the ability, tools and resources, is organized and that Roush is digging every day and willing to do whatever it takes to make a win happen. The team got behind on the (COT) Car of Today or at least feel like they did, but Biffle is convinced the team is getting better and that they should see a difference in the next five races.

Biffle has a contract with Roush Fenway Racing and Ford through the end of 2008. He has called off any negotiations with the team on an extension for 2009-2011 at this time. Biffle is not happy with the way the team is running and feels under these circumstances, why should he negotiate, he isn't going anywhere soon. Kurt Busch was in this situation a few years back, however Biffle feels Kurt couldn't see any daylight ahead and just gave up and perused other offers.

Asked if Kyle Busch might come to Roush Fenway Racing, Biffle reminded everyone that they were already ONE FAT!

Atwood Helps Biffle
Two weeks in a row former NASCAR Cup driver, Casey Atwood has filled in helping Greg Biffle's No. 37 Cub Cadet Ford team. This weekend at Kentucky Speedway, Atwood helped prepare for the Meijer 300 presented by Oreo, NASCAR Busch Series race. Biffle had a conflict in time as he was at Michigan International Speedway focusing on his No. 16 Dish Network Ford in the Citizens Bank 400, NASCAR Nextel Cup Series event.

Biffle had originally slated NASCAR driver Burney Lamar as fill-in at Nashville Superspeedway. Rumor has it Burney is still under personal contract with Chevrolet and they would not allow him in a Ford.

Aflac Duck Joins Roush Fenway
Aflac Incorporated announced Friday at Michigan International Speedway they have partnered with Roush Fenway Racing to sponsor eight NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series races this season. Race fans may view the paint scheme at http://wwwaflacracing.com AflacRacing.com.

Aflac is setting themselves up to run a full season in 2008, the races to be run by the Roush drivers were picked as it was believed those drivers could win at those tracks. Aflac officials stated, they expect results and a lot of them. The Aflac Duck has became a household name and should be a fun sponsor for race fan and Roush Fenway Racing.

Remembering A Friend
Greg Biffle shared with media, following a Friday morning Aflac press conference at Michigan International Speedway, that he was lost in thought remembering his good friend, Benny Parson's who passed away in January from cancer. Parson's always cued 'The Duck' during NBC NASCAR Nextel Cup Series races. Michigan was also the site of a Benny Parsons NASCAR Cup win 27 years before on that date, in a No. 37 Chevrolet. It wasn't mentioned, but Parsons was the number one person instrumental in Baffle's NASCAR career. Normally at Michigan the two friends would visit a casino, in fact Biffle raddled chips in his pocket that he had left from their last visit to the area.

Meet Justin
It only takes one incident to change your life direction. Justin Marks, grew up attending dirt late model races with his grandfather in St. Louis, Missouri, but it wasn't until he attended the Indianapolis 500 in 1995 that a passion for professional auto racing was sparked. Justin is a single, 26 year old driving the full 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule for owner Crew Chief, Robby Benton in the No. 65 Crocs Dodge for RIB Racing. Justin has been racing since age seventeen, while graduating from Chico College in California with a degree in Sports Marketing. The past four years he has been a BMW Factory driver in the American Lemans Series, where he met NASCAR driver, Boris Said. It was Said that convinced Justin to move to circle tracks, commenting full time the effort in reaching NASCAR. The young man is a sponsors dream and with his dedication it could happen. Speaking with Justin early in the season, he was convinced he could win a championship in ARCA, currently in 8th position in points he is gaining each race.

Poison Ivy
You heard the voice during the Michigan 200, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Michigan International Speedway, but you probably didn't see his face on television. Speed Channel Pit Reporter, Ray Dunlap had a bad case of poison ivy, and opted to turned over the fan favorite tool segment to another during Saturday's race.
