One Week Later, The Other Fix

By Carol Einarsson

July 14, 2001

Yeah, we all know that the buzz around the racing community is all about “Did they or didn’t they?” A line has been drawn, and it seems no one is without opinion about whether or not NASCAR fixed the race so Jr. could win. For the record, I’m on the “did not” side of the issue, and feel quite strongly that those of you on the “did so” side should be quite ashamed of yourselves. But that’s another column. (And Ron already wrote it, so check it out!)..How The Pepsi 400 was Fixed...Not What You Think!!

But now we’re looking at another race and quite “coincidentally” the one guy who’s “big trap” (I got that description from a kind reader who emailed me this week) was the most vocal about this supposed “fix” is starting on the front row ---- along with his TEAMMATE, even?? Hmmm... does anyone else smell a rat? A rat that doesn’t forget, maybe?

Here’s a guy that has started on the front row just five times in TWELVE YEARS, and now he’s there again the week following his accusation that NASCAR fixes things?

I think this is the most persuasive evidence thus far that there’s something to this conspiracy theory. Jimmy Spencer starting in the front row.... could it BE more special?

Sounds too good to be true.

Must be a fix.
