Allstate 400 at the Brickyard Notebook ~ Sunday An Opinion
July 30, 2007 By Connie Felix
Chris Economaki Injured In Fall Chris Economaki, 86 year old journalist, was missing from the NASCAR Nextel Cup, Allstate 400 At The Brickyard held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 29, 2007. InsiderRacingNews.com was advised Economaki had fallen the week before and broke his left shoulder blade and two ribs. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this Icon of Motorsports for a speedy recovery.
Denny Hamlin Didn't Roll Over The Hamlin quote is referring to Tony Stewart running into the No. 11 FedEx Chevrolet at Daytona International Speedway and then bad mouthing Hamlin for the incident. When the two drivers didn't settle the dispute Joe Gibbs showed up in Chicago, delaying practice for the two drivers by collecting Stewart and leading him to Hamlin's Hauler to settle the matter. Hamlin stated at Indy, "I'm going to always take the high road because the controversy and all, it's not worth it. I think he (Tony Stewart) learned in the long run too especially with a teammate that it's not going to be good to blast me on TV or whatever because all it did was cause two total weeks of stress for us. It was a pain to have to deal with it and at the end of our meeting, we were like 'now we can just tell everyone it's over and it's done' and I think it was really getting to him as much as it was getting to me that we hadn't talked and really that's why I chose not to talk to him because I wanted to get in his head a little bit, just because you're the elder here and the team leader doesn't mean I'm just going to roll over for you."
Son Gets Dad's Paycheck Jeb Burton, teenage son of Ward Burton waited Saturday beside his father to see if he (Ward) would make it into the Allstate 400 At The Brickyard. With his heart pounding the young man stated, he was just closing his eyes and praying to God, that his Father would make the race. Jeb admitted, he was so nervous he could hardly talk but was thrilled as the paycheck was going to his go-kart fund. "Every daggone bit of it!", stated Ward Burton, "One of these days he'll be out here showing us how to do it."
Color Change For Rusty Rusty Wallace, ESPN Television NASCAR Race Analyst may keep his voice calm when his son, Steven Wallace, NASCAR Busch Series driver No. 66 HomeLife Communities Dodge, wrecks himself or another, but fellow announcers verify that Rusty indeed changes various shades of red off camera.
Now You Know The Rest Of The Story Chip Ganassi wants everyone to know the on-air argument between Juan Pablo Montoya and, his then NASCAR Busch Series crew chief, Brad Parrott had nothing to do with the two no longer working together the following week at New Hampshire International Speedway. Ganassi stated, "We didn’t really change Juan’s Busch crew chief. We changed Reed Sorenson’s Busch crew chief (Brian Pattie) and the result of that was that Juan was going to get a change also. We basically switched the two crew chiefs on the car and that was really been for Reed’s benefit. I came to Juan and said ‘Hey, these guys are talking about changing the crew chiefs. How do you feel about that?’ He said if it’s better for the team go ahead and do it. I don’t care. I’ll work with anybody. So I think that’s an important thing I want to point out here because that was done as an accommodation for someone else (Sorenson) and he (Montoya) just said hey, whatever you’ve got to do, go ahead and do.”
James Denton Grand Marshal James Denton waved the green flag to start the NASCAR Nextel Cup, Allstate 400 At The Brickyard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend. He fully understood that when they told him to 'drop the flag' NASCAR does not mean DROP the flag.
Producer Promises Accurate Clips ESPN on ABC Senior Motorsports Producer Neil Goldberg, has promised to provide pictures during their NASCAR Cup race coverage that accurately portrays what the announcers say is occurring during a race incident or accident. As fans everywhere know this season has been the worst for TV personalities blaming one driver or another for a wreck on the track, yet the viewing audience does not see anything that substantiates the comments.
Yates/Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing Confusion Robert Yates came together with his new partners Carl Haas, Paul Newman and Michael Lanigan at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to speak with the media. It seemed to be all about money and engineering but most questions were not answered. Many in attendance had the impression Ford was 100% responsible for putting the two groups together but this was stated. Newman was asked a question and replied, "I started in silent films and want to keep it that way."
One Official NASCAR Cup Test Session Remains The last NASCAR Nextel Cup test session was held at Dover International Speedway in May 2007. One more official series test is scheduled this season to be held at Talladega Superspeedway, September 10-11, 2007. In the event of rain, September 12, has been set aside.
Chase Elliott In NASCAR 2014? Chase Elliott, 11 year old son of NASCAR driver Bill Elliott, is leading the championship points in both the Mini Max Kart and 80cc Novice Shifter kart division in the Colorado Sprint Championship Series. He has finished no worse than second in twelve starts. Young Elliott's, first race win of his career came last week at Atlanta Motor Speedway, in his No. 9 ABF capturing the Legends Car Bandits division feature.
