The Governors Award is presented to an individual, group or company that has made significant contributions to the growth of Motorsports. Best Abs On The East Coast

Patrick Sheltra, ARCA RE/Max Series driver, No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge, had an invited guest this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Scott Herman, 24 year old personal trainer, model and actor and a member of this years MTV's Real World: Brooklyn. He experienced his first racing event and enjoyed a time on the flag stand during the final ARCA RE/MAX Series practice.

The media first met Scott when he walked into the media center on Thursday, pulled up his shirt to expose his abs, and announced, "What do you think of these". That's one memorable way to introduce yourself. Between you and me, the men swooned.

40 Years For RCR

Richard Childress Racing launched its 40th anniversary celebration Saturday at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, the track where Richard Childress made his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut. The RCR 40th Anniversary Celebration will continue through Nov. 1, 2009, the length of time between the two Sprint Cup Series races at Talladega. The cornerstone of the program will include the Pick the Greatest RCR Moment contest on RCR’s website, where fans will vote on one of a dozen great moments in RCR history, with one lucky fan winning RCR’s VIP prize package for two to the Oct. 30-Nov. 1 AMP Energy 500 weekend.

Childress drove a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro after competing in the same car the day before in a support race for the inaugural event at what was then known as Alabama International Motor Speedway. He only competed in the race when NASCAR founder Bill France asked him to help fill the field after the regular series drivers refused to drive on the brand new 2.66-mile high-banked facility. Childress states his first thought when going home with $10,000, "I'll never have to work another day in my life". However he actually bought a small piece of land and built a race shop.

GM Cars ARE Selling

There is talk this weekend of the April 30th, Government deadline for General Motors. No one at Talladega Superspeedway seems to know what will happen, whether it means a merge with Fiat or the auto manufacturer filing bankruptcy. A trip to a small rural town in Middle Tennessee this past week, found the local GM dealership excited about selling 9 vehicles in one day, so they at least don't believe sales are down.

Kurt Busch joked, "The Fiat connection, when I first heard about it, it was exciting for me because they’re somewhat affiliated with Ferrari and maybe there would be a chance to get a Ferrari out of this deal. "

    Talladega Illegal Parts & Pieces

NASCAR Officials stated Saturday morning at Talladega Superspeedway, that NO illegal parts or pieces were confiscated from any NASCAR Nationwide Series or NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race cars during the first two rounds of inspection.

    Marriage Analogy

Richard Childress made the decision prior to the Talladega Superspeedway weekend to swap crew chiefs and crews of the Casey Mears No. 07 and Kevin Harvick No. 29 teams. When asked, why he thought this switch would work, Childress stated, "You know sometimes it’s kind of like a divorce, when a man and woman are getting a divorce and they think they’re both giving 100 percent then the first thing she wants to do is get in the tanning bed and lose 30 pounds. He goes and gets rid of his gut and a sports car." Jeff Burton commented, "His (Childress) marriage analogy I think is pretty interesting, can’t wait to see the letters he gets for that."
