19 events deep into the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, nine events have been won by NASCAR Sprint Cup interlopers. But the regular teams competing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series have been fighting back and have won the other ten events themselves.

Saturday’s TheRaceDayRaffleSeries.com 175 appeared to be shaping up to be 175 laps of Kyle Busch dueling with Kevin Harvick while the regulars of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series fought for third place.

20 year old James Buescher had other thoughts as he kept the No. 31 Wolf Pack Rentals Chevrolet in the hunt stalking Busch and Harvick in the closing laps. With ten laps to go, Harvick slid up in the turn forcing Busch even higher. With the bottom lane completely open, Buescher seized the opportunity and swung under both of them clearing them on the back stretch and assumed the lead. Buescher began driving away from the two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers before a yellow flag flew bunching the field together for the final double file restart.

On the restart, Buescher opted for the top line with Busch down low. Both drivers had a good restart, but Busch was able to pass Buescher. Busch slid high to pull in front of Buescher but lacked a foot or so to clear him. Buescher lifted off the throttle to try and prevent a wreck. The two made contact with Busch bouncing off the Safer Barrier. Busch took the win and Buescher finished second.

The eight laps Buescher led in TheRaceDayRaffleSeries.com 175 were the first laps he has ever led in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in the three years that he has competed in the series. But how he assumed the lead for those eight laps and how he handled the pressure of racing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick during the last three laps of the race prove he has earned his spot competing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and a win is in his future.

So who is James Buescher and where did he come from?

Buescher was raised in Plano, Texas and now lives in Mooresville, North Carolina aka Race City U.S.A. At age 14, he won the 2004 Bandolero Young Gun National Champion. Two years later at age 16, he scored his first career win in the ASA Late Model Series in Florence, South Carolina, was voted the ASA Most Popular Driver, and was crowned the ASA Late Model Series South Champion.

He moved to the ARCA Racing Series in 2007. He won the ARCA Racing Series Construct Corps/Palm Beach Grading 250 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida driving Joe Miller’s No. 32 Mercedes Homes/Red Line Oil Dodge in his first ARCA Racing Series appearance.

In 2008, he moved to the No. 9 and No. 32 Win-Tron Driver Development Dodge owned by Kevin Cywinski. He qualified on the pole for the ARCA RE/Max 250 at Talladega but a transmission failure dropped him from the running 35 laps into the event. He also got the nod from Billy Ballew to make his debut in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driving his No. 15 Ergon Hyprene Toyota in the season ending Ford 250 at Homestead-Miami. Buescher qualified tenth and finished 19th.

Todd Braun also gave Buescher a shot to compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2008. Braun put the 18 year old behind the wheel of his No. 32 Great Clips Toyota at Phoenix and elected to let him campaign his car in six Nationwide events. Buescher returned a seventh place finish in the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 at Gateway International Raceway. And, he qualified on the pole for the Kroger on Track for the Cure 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park.

In 2009, Buescher drove Kevin Cywinski’s No.32 and No. 9 Wolf Pack Rentals Toyota in four ARCA Re/Max Series events. He won the season opener, the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona after qualifying seventh. He won the Drive Smart Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 after qualifying on the pole.

He drove James Finch’s No. 1 Miccosukee Resort & Gaming Chevrolet for two starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Tom Mitchell picked Buescher to drive his No. 10 International Max Force Diesel Ford for the entire 2009 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Buescher recorded one top five and three top ten finishes averaging a 16.1 place finish over the season.

This year, Buescher set out the first three events on the 2010 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule without a ride. Doug Stringer put him behind the wheel of his No. 90 Great Clips Toyota for the Nashville 200 at Nashville Super Speedway where Buescher finished 13th. Steve Turner picked him up to drive his No. 31 Wolf Pack Rentals Chevrolet for the next event on the schedule, the O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway. Buescher finished second at Dover in the Dover 200 coupled with Saturday’s second place finish, 20 year old Buescher is set to have his best year in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. To date he has five top five and seven top ten finishes in 16 events.

He has also made ten starts this year in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driving James Finch’s Phoenix Racing No. 1 Chevrolet. He recorded an eighth place finish in the Drive4COPD 300 at Daytona. Finch has also had him run three events in his No. 1 Toyota’s and Dodges in the ARCA RE/Max Series this year. Buescher recorded a fourth place finish in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona.

With the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers dominating in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, they hold a little less than half of the wins in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Drivers like James Buescher are making them earn their wins in the trucks.
