Nashville Goodyear Tire Notes This is the fourth consecutive NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Nashville at which these Goodyear tire codes have been run, dating back to April 2007 -- Nashville is the only major NASCAR track at which these tire codes will be run in 2008, covering both the Nationwide (twice) and Craftsman Truck Series (August) -- as on all NASCAR's ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Nashville -- air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.

    Keselowski Wins First Race

    Keselowski Celebrates First Victory
Brad Keselowski, in his 49th start in the Nationwide Series, took home one of the most prized trophies in NASCAR, the Sam Bass designed Gibson guitar from Nashville Superspeedway and his very first victory in the series. Keselowski's parents were at the track to watch their son become a first time winner. Keselowski took the lead with five laps to go in the Federated Auto Parts 300, holding off David Stremme and David Reutimann. "I feel like I paid some dues," Keselowski said. "To catch that break like I did with Dale (Earnhardt) Jr. and this Navy Chevrolet, it vindicates it. I've got a team that just keeps getting better every week, and I keep getting better every week. I felt like this was just a matter of time."

Clint Bowyer finished fourth while David Ragan was fifth. Mike Wallace brought his Toyota home in sixth place followed by Scott Wimmer, Kelly Bires, rookie Landon Cassill and Greg Biffle to round out the top ten. Pole sitter, eighteen year-old Joey Logano, led 64 laps before getting caught up in a wreck on lap 88. Logano finished 31st. “We had a really good car," said Logano. "Obviously, we put it on the pole and led the first part of the race there. We made our green flag stop and were still in the lead. Then, we came in and took those four tires and it put us back there in the trash. You got lap cars that are way slower than you and they’re all sideways. You put stickers on and you’re obviously going to be looser. Somewhere within that mess – I’m not sure what happened behind me but I got tagged in the left rear and around I went. I got hit hard enough that I knew I wasn’t going to save that thing. It was definitely a bummer. We had a great car – a car that could win the race and couldn’t capitalize on it.”

Nashville Superspeedway over the years has produced seven first time winners. * The Nationwide Series moves to Kentucky Speedway next Saturday, June 14th.

    Joey Logano On Nashville Pole

Eighteen year-old Joey Logano, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, put his No. 20 Toyota Camry on the pole for Saturday night's Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. It is Logano's second race and his first Nationwide pole. Logano toured the 1.333-mile concrete speedway in 30.003 seconds, translating to a speed of 159.944 mph. Brad Keselowski, driving for JR Motorsports, turned in the second best time, his trip around the track was 30.127 seconds, for a speed of 159.286. Mike Bliss will start third and Clint Bowyer rolls of in the fourth spot. Kyle Busch qualified fifth followed by rookie Landon Cassill, Scott Wimmer, Carl Edwards, Mike Wallace and Brad Coleman. Four drivers failed to qualify, rookie Brian Keselowski, Brett Rowe and Ryan Hackett. The Federated Auto Parts 300 is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. eastern time on ESPN2.  ...Daily Headlines

    Streme Leads Final Practice

Riding a wave of momentum, Team Atreus Homes & Communities Rusty Wallace Racing driver, David Stremme, continued his climb through the NASCAR Nationwide Series this evening, posting the fastest lap in the final practice session for Saturday’s Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. Stremme and his No. 64 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS toured the 1.333-mile speedway in 29.984 seconds (160.045 MPH); his fastest lap occurred on the 20th of his 22 laps in the session. The No. 64 team was the only team to post a sub-30-second lap during either of Friday’s two practice sessions.

    Landon Cassill Will Sign Autographs

On Sautrday, Landon Cassill will greet fans and sign autographs at JR Motorsports' souvenir hauler outside Nashville Superspeedway. Cassill will be available following his NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying lap. Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 2:35 p.m. local time.

    Busch Will Make History

This weekend, NASCAR driver Kyle Busch will make history by competing in three different series on three different tracks, all on the same weekend. His itinerary will take him to Pocono Raceway, Nashville Superspeedway and Texas Motor Speedway. Busch has already won 10 races across NASCAR’s three national series – four wins in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, four in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and two in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

    Double-Duty Substitutes

Other than Casey Atwood for Greg Biffle, the other substitute drivers scheduled to handle practice and probable qualifying runs for double-duty drivers also competing at Pocono this weekend are: Willie Allen for Kyle Busch (Allen, a Tennessee native and driver for Sadler-Hamilton Racing, a team co-owned by Bobby Hamilton Jr., was the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year last season); Stephen Leicht for standings leader Clint Bowyer; Jason Hedelsky for Carl Edwards (Hedelsky normally serves as Edwards' spotter in the Nationwide Series); Josh Wise for David Reutimann and Auggie Vidovich for David Ragan.

    A May To Remember

The past month was definitely one to remember in series competition. Joe Gibbs Racing won three of May's four races while its drivers were victorious in all four events; Kyle Busch won for Braun Racing at Charlotte. Before Busch's win, JGR totaled six victories in succession, a series record.

Series-only regulars made a statement by having five drivers solidly ranked in the top 10 in the standings the entire month, a first since August, 2007. Classic racing was on display at Charlotte where Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin started a rivalry and teammates Kyle Busch and Jason Leffler created a stir at Dover. And Joey Logano made his long-anticipated debut a successful one.

    Logano Hoopla Familiar To Atwood

Nashville native Casey Atwood can identify with the hype surrounding 18-year-old phenom Joey Logano, who finished sixth in his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut last week at Dover. Atwood was 18 years, 10 months and 9 days old when he became the youngest driver to win in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Milwaukee in 1999. He won again that season and after another full year in the Nationwide Series spent two years in NASCAR Sprint Cup before his national series career hit hard times. Now 27, Atwood has been a valuable asset to double-duty teams as a practice/qualifying driver, a position he will hold for 2002 Nationwide Series champion Greg Biffle this weekend.

    Stand-Alone Season Begins

The June race at Nashville Superspeedway signals the start of NASCAR Nationwide Series stand-alone season. With no NASCAR Sprint Cup Series companion event on the schedule, the races provide series regulars a time to shine – and they've taken advantage of that chance in the past. Scott Wimmer won the first race at Nashville last March breaking “Concrete” Carl Edwards' three-race winning streak there; a series-only regular has won the last two races at Kentucky Speedway and a series-only regular has won at The Milwaukee Mile over the last five years (Aric Almirola was credited with the win there last year as he started the race teammate Denny Hamlin won).
