Office Depot Closing 112 StoresA major U.S. retailer is reducing its footprint by 112 stores over the next three months-40 of them in the Northeast and Canada. Office Depot Inc. has a handful of stores in Upstate New York, including one in Henrietta on Jefferson Road. Company officials did not immediately supply the specific stores to close under the cost-cutting measure.By eliminating 112 underperforming stores, the company will have reduced its North American store base to 1,163. The stores to be closed include 45 in the Central U.S., 19 in the West and eight in the South. In addition, 14 stores will be closed through 2009 as their leases expire or other lease arrangements are made. New store openings slated for the coming year have been reduced by half to approximately 20. Office Depot also plans to close six of its 33 distribution facilities in North America, in line with the company's ongoing plans to combine separate supply chain systems. (No word on how this will affect the sponsorship of Stewart-Haas Racing)...(WHEC.com)
Bill Elliott At "The Rock"It has been over 30 years since Bill Elliott made his debut in the Carolina 500 at the Rockingham Speedway in 1976 in what is now known as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The three time race-winner at Rockingham was back with his own car and driver from his own driver development program. Elliott was behind the wheel of his own ARCA car early in the test session to get a base line set up and then assumed the role of driver coach for Casey Roderick the 16 year old phenomenon who was getting his first laps on a superspeedway.“There are certain things you ain’t going to be able to teach them [young drivers], they are going to come up with their own habits of how they drive,” said Elliott, the 1988 Champion. “If you just give them the fundamentals and somehow they figure out better ways of doing it than you anyways. Right now it is just, here are the tools, we will go out and run it, it seems to be okay and go out and learn.” Roderick is hoping to come back next spring and race in the Carolina 200 ARCA RE/MAX Series race on April 19th, 2009 as well as the season ending ARCA race on October 11th, 2009. The first race of the 2009 season for the Rockingham Speedway is the Polar Bear 150 on New Year’s Day. Up to 99 cars will start three wide for 33 rows. The Polar Bear 150 kicks off on December 31st with practice during the day and a New Years Eve celebration in the garage area of the track starting at 7:30 p.m. Fans can join the drivers and teams for the celebration for only $10. The Polar Bear 150 will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday January 1st with general admission seating only $15 when purchased in advance and $20 the day of the race. Kids 12 and under are free with a paid adult. For more information please call the speedway at 910-205-8800 or visit (www.rockinghamspeedway.com)

Truck Schedule Changes, Iowa Replaces MansfieldThe National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) announced today that Iowa Speedway will host a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on September 5 in place of the event that was originally scheduled May 23 at Mansfield Motorsports Park. The realignment of the race was a result of Mansfield’s request that the event be moved from its track because of its inability to meet the requirements necessary to remain a NASCAR sanctioned facility. “It is always exciting to go to a new venue and show the fans what the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is all about,” said NASCAR’s Vice President of Racing Operations Steve O’Donnell. “The Midwest has some of our sport’s most loyal fans and Iowa Speedway produces some incredible racing as we’ve seen with the NASCAR Camping World East and West Series. We look forward to racing there this season.” In addition to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, Iowa will host the NASCAR Nationwide Series, as well as the NASCAR Camping World East and West Series in 2009.
“We are extremely pleased to continue our strong relationship with NASCAR with the awarding of yet another NASCAR series race to Iowa Speedway,” said Iowa Speedway CEO Stan Clement. “We know from past experience that fans here in the Midwest will support this exciting new event.”
