Lap Leader Award To Kyle Busch ~ Championship To Jeff Gordon
Jeff Gordon clinched the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader Award for the 2007 season. He holds a three-race lead (8-5) over Tony Stewart in the overall standings with two races remaining. Gordon will earn $75,000 for his efforts during the 2007 season. In order to be eligible for the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award for a single event, drivers and teams must run the WIX Filters decal on the front fender and use WIX oil or air filters in their vehicles.
For the year-end payout, teams must run the decal on the front fender for every race they participate in, with an allowance for one race, and they must always use WIX oil or air filters. Gordon led today’s race twice for 20 laps and scored a seventh-place finish, his 28th top-10 in 34 starts. Gordon is second in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series championship standings, 30 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson. He leads third-place Clint Bowyer by 151.
Kyle Busch led six times for 153 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in the Dickies 500. Busch claimed the award for the second time this season and has led 636 laps in 19 races this season. In the last three races, Busch has led 336 of a possible 1,169 laps. He has led at least one lap in each of the past FIVE consecutive races. Busch scored a fourth-place finish in Sunday’s race, his 19th top-10 of the 2007 season and third in the last four races. Busch is fourth in the Nextel Cup Series championship standings, 158 behind third-place Clint Bowyer and 18 ahead of fifth-place Carl Edwards.
